Hanging On

You are young

And I am old

But there are things

You should be told.

I once stood

Right where you are

No sight of hope

Near or far.

I held on one more second

Took a breath and walked away

The pain of my imaginings

Was never there to stay.

Now I am an old woman

Gray streaked through my hair

Can laugh at those who stepped on me

And those that simply stared.

Once steeped in desperation

Today my joy abounds

I hung on one more second

Breathing in, above the ground.

A penny in my pocket

A prayer upon my lips

I know today when trouble comes

I won't succumb to it.

Behold the tiny mustard seed

If all the faith you ever have

Is even near the size of it

You will make it through the crap.

So hold on one more second

Let time passing be your friend

Find forgiveness for your enemies

And you'll win in the end.

Contrary to popular opinion,

The light at the end of the tunnel is NOT a gorilla with a flashlight.
