A Zoo In the House of Christmas

Twas the day before Christmas

And all through the house

The cats are a romping

Without benefit of mouse

The garland hangs crooked

On the bottom of the tree

Where cat paws have pulled it

In their Christmas glee

The catnip lies sprinkled

On scratcher and post

But cats in their playtime

Love that darn tree most

Squirtings of water,

Yells from our lips

Can only deter them

Before the tree tips

Away in the manger,

Nativity scene

Sleeps one little fur-ball

In grass that's not green.

They cannot be thwarted

In this time of year

Metal tinsel must be place high

Or they'll eat it I fear.

Now we love our kitties

And we love our old tree

But the sight of it

Wires them for damage, you see.

On Tabbers, and Molly

And Joe boy and Sam

To the top of the mantle

And over the lamp.

Romping through Christmas

Is ever their treat

While fear of a topple

Each morning we greet

But the lights are a twinkling,

There's joy in our hearts

While the tree stands a bit haggard,

But enjoying its part.
