Conviction Poems

Not So Original Sin

Original sin-

Not so original.

One thing requested,

Not given.

So true to

Human nature

Rebellious children, we are.

Demanding what we don't have

Rather than counting

The abundance

Freely given.

Fear of God

Misconstrued into

Hiding our nakedness.

As if He won't

Notice the cookies

We stole from

The jar

While we thought

He wasn't looking.

Lying to God.

As if He doesn't

Know already,

The imperfections

Beneath our

Complexions.

Waxed over,

Hiding flaws.

Whose judgement

Do I truly fear?

Human friends judge

Harshly in the

Shadows of their

Own hidden sins.

My God, my friend

Knows my all

And offers me

Only grace and

Forgiveness if

I will simply

Stand Naked

And offer Him

The only me

I have to give.

His friendship

Allows me freedom

Of expression

Beyond the bonds

Of constitutional law.

His laws are bound

With the chords

Of grace if

I will only

Stop the

Make believe

Of Righteousness

And rely entirely on Him.
